Four Little Green Thumbs

>> Saturday, April 24, 2010

We decided to buy a raised planter instead of building one.  They were pretty cheap so we got a 4' x 4' to start off with that way we are not biting off more than we could chew at one time.

Mia and Blayke were so excited about transplating their plants, mommies herbs never grew (must have been bad seeds)

We had to put chicken wire around it to keep the silly rabbit out.  So let you know what we have planted here is the list.
(2) Sunflowers, (2) Watermelons, (2) Pumpkins, (2) Jalapenos, (2) Sweet Peas, (2) Cherry Tomatoes, (2) Regular Tomatoes, (1 Eggplant).  We have two more vacant spots for some extras.

We have started seads for 2 different types of lettuce, Brocolli, Cilantro, & Carrots.  We will see which ones take.  If they all take we are gonna get one more planter box.

What a cool raised planter! Great work guys! We can't wait to see what grows. Maybe if yours is successful we will try one next year. I don't know that our landlord would be okay with us killing a 4x4 plot of grass though. Maybe I could make room in one of the flower beds. That is definitely a project that I need Clay around for. Only two more months till he comes home. ;)

How neat! If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the planter? We've been looking for one since we rent and may be moving soon.

By the way, this is Megan, Brittney's friend (We met just after my son was born in 2008-Brittney was sweet enough to take care of our boys for us while I was in labor AND when she had family visiting-awesome woman, that one!). Anyways, I found your blog via her blog...I hope you don't mind that I stopped by!

We think planting that garden will be a great learning experience for the kids. Can't wait to taste the tomatoes! Hugs and kisses, Nana and Pop
