We went to the Bush-N-Vine to pick some fresh peaches.  This farm is huge and has all sorts of fruits and veggies for just about every season to pick from.

Whirling Waters Charleston, SC

>> Wednesday, July 21, 2010

After our Savannah stop we went to Charleston for a couple of days.  We found this great water park called Whirling Waters.  The county has three different water parks within their parks for you to cool down.  We went to the biggest one.  It had a Lazy River, Wave Pool, and tons of other stuff.  We enjoyed the day in the sun being cooled off by the water fun.

We ended the day with a carriage ride tour through down town and a nice family dinner before crashing back at the hotel for the night.

Our Savannah GA Girl Scout Stop

>> Tuesday, July 20, 2010

We stopped in Savannah on our way home from Florida.  We found Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace right in the center of the historic district.  We went in to get a little tour and earn Mia a patch and pin.  We were not allowed to take any pictures while in the house since they had several break ins and thefts in the past.

Here are some of the girls from Local troop waiting to get in to their tour.  There were several troops that day touring throughout the city.

Road Side America Stops

Our friend Julie sent us a link to http://www.roadsideamerica.com/.  For those of you not familiar with it’s an “Online Guide to Offbeat Tourist Attractions”.  It has attractions by state but also has some pretty fun oddities.  We searched for some of these oddities on our way home.  Here are a few of them.
Charleston SC Trip 044

This is Kelly, the giant cow in front of Keller's Flea Market in Savannah, Ga. She changes outfits periodically and in this photo you can see her in transition. She has her straw hat on. Her bell says "I Heart Fleas" and she is wearing a wrist watch on one leg and has a diamond ring on her tail.

Got Mail!
On the side of Quacco Road there is a giant mailbox painted to look like a black and white cow. Eight feet wide and 16 feet long, it soars nearly 30 feet in the air.
Owned by the same people that own Keller's flea market in Savannah, GA where Kelly the Cow sits outside.

This is the Great Dane Statue that is in Savannah, GA. Located at the Great Dane Trailer Building at E. Lathrop and Bay Street, it is impressive.

A large "rotating" bovine is the mascot of the Coburg Dairy. It stands (turns) on Hwy 17 South, in the St. Andrews shopping center in Charleston, SC. This icon has endured all manner of attention by local citizenry over the years.  We tried this chocolate milk while we were in SC and it is the BEST we have ever had.

Did We Walk The Dogs or Did They Walk Us

>> Wednesday, July 14, 2010

We went back to the Southeastern Guide Dog to take some of the older dogs for a walk to get some exercise.
Charleston SC Trip 002

This is Rocky with Mosi (the kids think he was named Rocky because he matches all of the huge rocks around the buildings).
Charleston SC Trip 008
This is Charlie. He did not have as much energy as Rocky but was still enjoying the outdoors.
We walked the dogs for about a half hour, I think they walked us more though.  We were pretty amazed with how strong these dogs are and tried very hard to keep them from pulling us too much.  Just when we had thought we had mastered control they saw a few of their other dog friends out for a walk so they took off running through a patch of water and mud with us following behind.  We think they thought it was play time.
We had a big laugh about getting our mud baths especially when the little kids were cracking us laughing at Mosi and me.
We went and took the dogs back to get brushed then went to the car to clean up a bit.  Good thing I had water and towels in there left over from the beach.  We then headed over to Hug some Puppies.
Charleston SC Trip 023
We don’t know when we will be back but we hope soon.  We encourage anyone who is visiting around the Parrish, FL to stop by and visit.  They could use more walkers and huggers along with supplies.

We decided to take a drive after our puppy hugging so we ended up at the Desoto National Park.
Southeastern Guide Dog Visit 043
The kids loved this tree and all took turn taking a picture on it.  After reading and learning a little about Desoto we took off on one of the hiking trails.  Once we finished that up we headed indoors for a movie about Desoto’s Expedition.  It was a good way to cool off.  The kids enjoyed the park and it was nice that they learned something too.

Found Some Toys, Lost A Tooth

>> Friday, July 9, 2010

Friday was a scorcher of a day so we decided to do some indoor activities.  We had a late breakfast and headed to the Red barn for some little buys.  Nana & Pop had given the kids some money, and it was burning a hole in their pockets.

Blayke found these three cars at three different stands.

Vroom.....!

Mia found this doll for half price.

She is saving the rest of her money to buy  something else later on during our trip.
Xochi liked this doll so much she bought one too.

We then headed to the movies at Desoto Square to see a  Marmaduke

While we were in the theater, Mia lost her front tooth.  We had to use the lights on our cell phones to find it.

The tooth fairy came and left Mia $2.00.  Now she has $7.00 left to spend.

Fun At The Beach With Family

>> Thursday, July 8, 2010

We spent Thursday at a beach out in Long Boat Key.  The kids loved it.  Perfect weather with friends and family that came to visit.  Here are some pics of all the fun we had.

Gordo (Israel), Mia & Xochi

Gordo and Miguel were in Florida for a short visit so we took the opportunity to see them and take them to the beach with us.

My little water baby.

Blayke played with the toys more since the salt water was burning his eyes.

He headed to the pool by the house to end the day

Julie, Jim, Seth, Ethan, Maurlene & Asha drove down from Ocala to join in on the fun.  We are so happy they came to spend some time with us.  We have missed them terribly.  I will upload more pics of them once Julie sends me some from her camera.  Mine died so I don't have any.

Introducing Nilda to Geocaching

>> Monday, July 5, 2010

We had time to kill on Monday afternoon after everyone left Nilda's house and Guy had gone back home to North Carolina so off we went Geocaching with Nilda.  Although her kids had been on hunts with us before this was her first time out.

Although she did not enjoy the walk through the soaked with rain water, mosquitoe invested woods she did get excited about it when she found it.  Next time we won't go in between a rain storm.

4th Of July With Mimi

>> Sunday, July 4, 2010

We had a fun filled day with Mimi on the 4th of July even though it rained all weekend.

We started off the morning making door hangers.

Then Mimi treated us to Mote Marine.  Mimi bought Blayke a really cool shark t-shirt and Mia a stuffed sea turtle.  We tried to pet the stingrays but they were not cooperating that day.

Then off we went along the gulf coast to introduce Mimi to geocaching.  She seemed to enjoy it.  We searched them out while she waited for us in the air conditioned car to bring back the find.  I think she got the better end of the deal with the rain and humidity we ran across.

Then we went off the the river front for the firework show.

The kids got a little impatient but.........

It was worth the wait.

We loved spending this time with Mimi.  The kids really missed her.  We are looking forward to seeing her again soon before we leave back home.
