We watched a 3D movie and played with all of the displays. Then we went out for a nice lunch at a local Mexican restaurant. We had a great day!
We are going to make a few goodie bags for Birthday Blessings before we leave for our Florida vacation. So we thought of some fun outdoor summer fun to give. Chalk obviously came to mind. Instead of just buying chalk though we thought it would be fun to make some fun shaped homemade chalk for the bags.
So yes we have been slacking with our 5K trianing. With us being sick, then rain and just plain old laziness we have gotten of the beaten path. It's crunch time now so we are back to really training. It's gonna be tough to make the September 5K but we are determined to do it. Encouraging Words (and prayer) are welcome.
Read more...Now that the kids are a little older we have been stressing the importance of serving others. Philippians 2:4 (NLT) "Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too". So we are dedicating this Summer to "Serving Others". Here are few of the things we will be doing to help out those in need.
1) Prayer - We do this several times a day but we are going to extend it to praying for someone new that we meet everyday. This will give us an incentive to get out and meet someone new on a daily basis. Who knows we may make a few new friends. There may be a person we meet that has plenty of money, but just needs friendship. This person may only need someone to sit with a talk to on a lonely day.
2) Making Party Favors and Decorations - Birthday Blessings (http://www.birthdayblessings.org/) brings birthday joy and support to homeless children and their families. They believe that every child deserves to be celebrated, regardless of circumstance. So we will be making party favors, goodie bags and decorations to donate. This will be an on going activity through out the year.
3) Hug A Puppy/Walk A Dog - While we are in Florida we will be helping out a few days at Southeastern Guide Dogs (http://www.guidedogs.org/). We will be Puppy huggers helping out 6- to 9-week-old puppies become comfortable with people by interacting with them. Then we will walk more mature dogs on campus to provide mild exercise, recreation and occasional grooming. Their mission is "To create and nurture a partnership between a visually impaired individual and a guide dog, facilitating life's journey with mobility, independence and dignity". We are excitd about helping them out.
4) Deliver Meals - Friendship Trays (http://www.friendshiptrays.org/) is a local Meal on Wheels. They delivers more than 600 meals daily to elderly, handicapped, and convalescing people who are unable or greatly restricted in their ability to prepare or secure meals. We will be delivering meals one day every other week. We are scheduled to take a tour of the facility June 15th and will be assigned a route to start the week of August 9th. We are looking into signing Mia up for their week long Summer Camp working at their Frienship Farm & Garden (http://www.friendshiptrays.org/Gardens/Camp/2010/CampMain.htm). Looks like fun and a great opportunity to learn more about how to help others.
We will keep you posted on our progess!
Once a week we use to do a Date Night for Guy and I, a Family Date Night for all of us, and a Family Movie/Game Night. Things went a little off course when I started working again. Now that I am home again we have reinstated Date Nights back (Movie/Game Nights never went away).
Guy had to go to a job site in Virginia this week so on his way he decided to hit a few Caches to break up the drive.
We have started The Cache Across America Series: This is a series of caches that will take you on a caching tour of the entire United States. One cache is hidden in each of the 50 states. These caches each contain a numeric clue that will lead you to one final cache located in our nation's capitol upon completion of the series. He found the one here in NC on his way to work a few weeks ago. Since he was going to VA this week we tracked that one and were happy to find out it was just miles from his hotel.
Guy made me a Bagel Egg Sandwich for breakfast this morning. The kids don't like eggs so I made them Fruit Cabobs.
